Program Information
The university's New Employee Orientation (NEO) process was developed to ensure the smooth transition of new staff
members to the Hopkins environment. This process is a continuous one which emphasizes self-directed learning and skill
development. With the assistance of supervisors, co-workers, "internal" customers and the human resources staff,
new staff can expect to have the answers to all of their questions regarding the university, in addition to the skills
necessary to become a successful member of the Hopkins community.
The NEO process is divided into three phases. Phase One, the General Orientation, includes an overview of the
university. A complete list of topics covered is provided below. Phase Two focuses on benefit options and provides
new staff an opportunity to make their benefit selections. Finally, Phase Three encourages individual skill
development. The university's
Management and Staff Training Policy includes training expectations of new managers
and supervisors, staff with access to the university's financial and administrative systems, as well as a minimum
of three full days of training expected of all non-bargaining unit staff members. It is strongly recommended that
new staff complete all of the steps outlined in the NEO process as quickly as possible.
