Center for Training and Education's Mission

The Center for Training and Education's mission is:

  • to enhance organizational learning and individual skill development in the JHU community by providing high quality training and orientation activities, and
  • to foster an understanding of Hopkins' Educational Assistance Programs and coordinate client requests to ensure that employees and eligible family members are able to avail themselves of program benefits.

Training and Development programs are offered at a variety of levels to provide for the work-related needs of faculty and staff. The definition in use follows:

Definition: Developing key competencies which enable individuals to perform better in current or future jobs.

As they mature, adults seek to feel fulfilled in their chosen profession and try to find meaning in their lives and work. It is the responsibility of the university to provide for the professional development of the people it employs in the same way it provides health care and a retirement plan. The benefits of this development will accrue equally to the organization and to the individual over time.
