IT Program Description

The Financial and Information Technology Training Programs (FITT) are an integral part of the Center for Training and Education and serve as the chief resource for financial and administrative training. In fact, this past year, the programs have experienced tremendous growth in both the curriculum and the enrollment of participants.

One of FITT's major goals is to provide a variety of industry-standard application software courses. A second goal is to bridge the gap between the knowledge learned through traditional academic methods and the dynamic technology skills required by today's fast and ever-growing information technology world.

FITT works with System Source to provide training in information technology and software applications. System Source offers a variety of courses at Johns Hopkins at Eastern. FITT, along with System Source, Inc. have established open enrollment training alliances with companies in Columbia, Hunt Valley, Gaithersburg, Alexandra, Virginia and Washington, D.C. These provisions have enabled Hopkins to offer a curriculum to Information Technology and management professionals that is a unique mix of classroom lecture and hands-on, real-world experience.

Training focuses on word processing applications, spreadsheet applications, web design/programming, operating systems, database applications, and much more. These courses are open to all full-and part-time faculty and staff on the university payroll and are paid for through Staff Development remission.

Additionally, a number of courses offered by FITT are available to any individual with a work affiliation to JHU who is employed as a temporary or student worker, as well as post doctoral fellows and employees of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. These categories of employees however, may register for courses only if space is available in the session requested, and only when their attendance is approved by their department, and the department is willing to pay the published course rate for the session.
