Tuition Reimbursement Plan for Bargaining Unit Staff

Eligibility:

Bargaining unit members become eligible for this benefit following 90 calendar days of full-time employment.

Benefit:

According to the agreement with Local 1231, effective January 4, 1993, reimbursement will be made for 100% of tuition for courses taken outside JHU, which are not available through the University and will promote or enhance an employee's career development. The maximum allowance is $500 per calendar year (January 1 - December 31). The Tuition Reimbursement Plan covers both credit and non-credit courses. Employees must obtain university approval prior to taking a course.

Limitations:

Reimbursement for a course taken for academic credit will be made only if the course is successfully completed. Reimbursement will not be made for credit courses taken for audit. Non-credit courses are also eligible for reimbursement. Proof of attendance is required.

Instructions:

1. Contact the institution you plan to attend to obtain course and registration information.

2. Complete a Tuition Reimbursement Application Form for the course(s) you intend to take, prior to registration and return it to your department head for approval. Following departmental approval, your department head will forward your application to the Center for Training and Education.

3. Training and Education will review your request for reimbursement and, if approved, return the signed form to you. A copy will be kept on file in the Training and Education office.

4. After the course is completed, return the approved application form along with copies of your payment for tuition and fees and grade reports. If the course is non-credit, you will need to provide proof of successful completion (attendance).

5. Training and Education will reimburse you for all eligible costs. Payments will be made directly to you. Please allow several weeks to receive reimbursement.
